OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY, KENYA
For Big Five enthusiasts, now is the perfect period to go on safari. Due to the dry season and sparse vegetation, ideal conditions prevail for viewing various predators and their prey. Waterholes become a magnet for animal activity as big cats exploit the wildlife concentrations. Spectacular photographic opportunities abound during this popular safari time.
Fewer tourists and excellent game viewing can be enjoyed during the short rains, starting sometime in late October or early November, and lingering through into early December. The grasslands are transformed after the dry season, showcasing lush and beautiful green landscapes. Thousands of migratory birds arrive, adding to the already impressive resident numbers. January is usually warm and sunny, with an occasional shower.
February is the last dry month before flocks of white storks arrive and the antelope birthing season begins. March through May are the long rains, although the showers don’t persist all day. It’s ideal now for avoiding crowds and taking advantage of lower rates. Big cats use the roads to avoid the wet grass, and plenty of dry spells allow for adventures. The camp closes in May and reopens in June after the rains.
Getting to Ol Pejeta is simple. It is a four-hour journey by road from Nairobi or a quick flight to Kamok Airstrip with a 45-minute drive to the camp.
Yes! Families with children over the age of 5 years are welcome. We have a spacious tent exclusively for families and there are several child friendly activities available within the conservancy.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy experiences a mild climate and consistently good game viewing, making any time of year exciting for your safari. The busiestmonths are July and August. However, the best months are September and October, when it’s still dry, with incredible wildlife viewing, and the summer holiday crowds have dispersed.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a habitat for diverse wildlife, including the Big Five and 300 bird species. However, the conservancy is renowned for its black and white rhino. It is the only location to see the world’s last two remaining northern white rhino. They are safeguarded by 24-hour armed protection. Furthermore, various endangered species are protected from predators and poachers within a 283-hectare (700-acre) enclosure.
During our twice-daily game drives, our expert guides will take you on a thrilling adventure in specially built 4×4 vehicles to explore the breathtaking terrain and search for wildlife. Our vehicles are outfitted to ensure your safety and comfort. You’ll also be able to enjoy snacks and drinks during the safari.
We offer delicious homemade cuisine in a shared dining area, featuring locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Meals can be enjoyed in camp or taken on a game drive to be enjoyed as a picnic in the bush.
If you have any dietary restrictions, kindly inform us before your arrival, and we will gladly make the necessary accommodations.
When going on a safari, it’s best to wear neutral-coloured clothing suitable for the season and light synthetic hiking shoes which can be used for various safari activities. Also, remember that small planes have a baggage weight limit of 15kg (33 lbs).
Asilia Africa’s Ol Pejeta Bush Camp offers solar-generated electricity and backup generator power. Additionally, each tent provides a bathroom with hot running water and flushing toilets.
